Solutions  /  Pension fund evidence report

For pension funds, master trusts and consultants

Ensure your commitments are upheld.

Managers know the commitments a scheme has made. What rarely continues is the screening — once a fund is running, holdings are seldom re-tested against those commitments, and a breach can sit in a default fund long after the determination that caused it. Each commitment is quoted from the scheme’s own document, with its page, and tested against what the funds hold, so trustees can see where a commitment is being met and where it is not.

Pension fund evidence report
Aegon Workplace Default
Holdings as at 2025-05-15 to 2026-02-28 — this fund does not have one holdings date, and each row is measured against its own · evidence snapshot 2026-09-01 · tested against the scheme’s own published exclusions.

Two questions about every holding

The fund’s policy excludes companies in breach of the UN Global Compact, as determined by its provider's data, which the scheme does not name. In its own words: “Noncompliance with U.N. Global Compact” — Five iShares ESG Screened and Optimised regional sleeves (Europe, EM, Japan, UK, US), p.Appendix 5. That determination is not published, and we do not hold it.

The company’s record. 241 of 1,131 holdings — 41.2% of the extracted equity lines · 32.1% of the pot — carry a final adjudicated determination inside the five-year window. Each row shows the company’s band and the one determination that set it. That part of the row is the same on every report we publish, whichever scheme holds the company. 66 of them are on our exclusion bar.

This scheme’s commitment. 208 of those — 20.7% of the extracted equity lines · 16.2% of the pot — carry a determination from a regulator we map to a UN Global Compact principle. The rest read Not covered: the scheme’s exclusion does not reach the determination. Not covered is a statement about the rule, not a clean record.

The rule’s own scope. The exclusion binds part of the default only. Holdings in Developed World Lower Carbon ESG Tilt Equity Index Fund are outside it: 22 listed holdings held only there read Not covered, and a holding held both inside and outside counts towards the figure above with its in-scope weight only. Corrected 12 October 2026: until then this page applied the rule to every block, which on the same evidence gives 230 holdings, 37.74%; that overstated it, because it counted the HSBC Developed World block, which the rule does not reach.

These are different measures and they disagree. A provider’s violator list is narrower than every enforcement finding that engages a principle, and a fund screened on one would not hold a share like this in violators — the size of the figure is itself the evidence that the two definitions differ. This page therefore does not say the fund breaches its policy. It sets the findings beside the policy, so a trustee can ask the manager which of them the provider’s list reaches and why the rest are not on it.

199 holdings carry a review marker. Each is fired by one stated rule, printed on the row and in full when the row is opened. A marker is a prompt to look at the record, not a recommendation.

These are not late findings. Of the 208 that engage the scheme’s exclusion, 196 were already on the public record before the holdings date that applies to each of them — 160 by more than a year, 122 by more than two. The oldest was determined 1,619 days before the fund published these holdings.

1,131 of 2,996holdings tested against this exclusion — 88.4% of the extracted equity lines · 68.9% of the pot
241carry a final adverse determination of any kind — 41.2% of the extracted equity lines · 32.1% of the pot
208of those engage the scheme’s own exclusion — 20.7% of the extracted equity lines · 16.2% of the pot
199marked for review, each by the rule printed on its row
66excluded on Sustain Labs: on our exclusion bar
What these percentages are over. Percentages on this page are over the extracted equity lines, which are 77.97% of the pot. The fund's own resolution report records equity parent allocation as 79.20% of the pot; the difference is allocation with no line-level schedule, and it is not unresolved holdings. The column is a share of the WHOLE POT. It sums to 0.7797 because that is the share of the pot with a line-level schedule; the equity allocation is 79.2% of the pot.
What this measure is, before the number is quoted anywhere. The commitment figure counts every holding with a final determination inside the window whose source maps to a UN Global Compact principle — the same basis as the PAI 10 figure on this fund, and the same basis in both reports. It is not comparable to a vendor’s UNGC screen and names more companies than the scheme’s own provider would, because EPA and MSHA between them reach most of the US listed population and a routine mine-safety docket is not what a scheme means by a UN Global Compact violator. Every row below carries the regulator, the stage and the date, so the reader can see which is which rather than take the total on trust.
The scheme’s other commitments
What else it promised, and whether it can be tested
The commitments report examines every published commitment across both layers, the share of the equity allocation each binds, and the parts of the arrangement whose documents were not retrievable.

The scheme’s own words: “Noncompliance with U.N. Global Compact” — a rule that runs on its provider's data, which the scheme does not name, not on this list. Scope 2 here is the location-based figure from WBA's climate profile. The reported Scope 1+2 above it uses a market-based Scope 2, so the two do not add up and are not meant to: they are different accounting bases, not a discrepancy. WBA labels neither, so this is read from the arithmetic — the profile's Scope 1 agrees with the aggregate on every company, and the residual differs only where the company buys renewable instruments.

Scope 2 here is the location-based figure from WBA's climate profile. The reported Scope 1+2 above it uses a market-based Scope 2, so the two do not add up and are not meant to: they are different accounting bases, not a discrepancy. Review is fired by the first of five rules that matches: excluded on Sustain Labs where the scheme’s exclusion does not reach the determination; excluded on Sustain Labs where it does; a critical finding; 2 or more final determinations in the window; one final determination within 24 months of the holdings date. A single determination older than that, below the critical floor, carries no marker.
Days is the gap between the determination and the holdings date — the period in which the fund had the opportunity to act. Filed proceedings are carried in the record but never fire a band: an allegation is not a determination.
