About us

Who is behind Sustain ESG Lab, and why it exists.

Why this exists

Investment choices carry real environmental weight. They fund the companies doing serious damage, and they fund the ones doing better — and most people never get to see what separates the two. The information exists. It sits in regulatory registers, enforcement dockets, court records and commitment registries, scattered behind paywalls, jargon and institutional tools.

Sustain ESG Lab brings those records together and shows what they say about companies and the subsidiaries they own: what has actually been determined, what has been committed to, and how both change over time. Everything is dated and traceable back to the register it came from, so it can be checked rather than believed on someone’s word.

What we publish

Our reports all draw on one body of evidence: portfolio screening, a pension fund evidence report, exclusions and critical findings, momentum and trend analysis, a sector and country heatmap, and leaders. Every row opens to the determination behind it, with the regulator, the case reference, the date and a link to the source record.

Public reports run on a quarter-delayed cut of the data. Clients receive the same reports on current data across the full universe. Higher-frequency updates and bespoke reporting are available on request.

How we stay independent

  1. Companies do not pay us. No assessed company funds, reviews or previews its own entry.
  2. Evidence comes from the record — regulatory registers, enforcement dockets, validated target registries and company filings. Where a company’s own statement is used, it is a filed document or an externally validated commitment, and it is recorded as exactly that.
  3. The methodology is published, so a conclusion can be tested against the rule that produced it.
  4. Coverage gaps are published too. What we cannot see is stated as unseen rather than estimated.

Who we are

What we are not

We are not a ratings agency and we do not publish a composite ESG score. We do not certify companies, we do not sell assurance to the companies we assess, and we do not offer investment advice. Sustain ESG Lab is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. What we publish is research — information people can weigh in their own decisions.
